ChemMedia • Young people demonstrate how chemistry is applied on a local regeneration site • Students, in Workshop format, designed a multimedia website, assisted by a local media company, to produce a science orientated careers film for prospective Sixth form students • Can be used to inform KS5 study options and to generate enthusiasm at KS4 for the sciences and associated careers
ChemMedia Stratford City is the largest mixed-use regeneration project in the UK to date. Yet, many teenagers are not aware of how professional scientists are involved with this development on a day-to-day basis. This resource aims to inspire young people to consider the opportunities to use their scientific education in a professional context using a wide range of employability skills. Working in a team environment where imagination can flourish and using high-quality film-cameras and digital video editing software, young people created short films on a website which convey the exciting careers that teenagers can consider within Chemistry. The project culminated in a film-screening of their work which is now a valuable resource to inform potential sixth form science students. The project was developed in GCSE Double Science and has several cross-curricular links.
