  2. GLOSS • Would you like to more effectively teach your “Net Generation” or “digital native” students who are very familiar with all forms of media and information technology? • GLOSS could be an effective teaching tool to meet your needs.

  3. What is GLOSS? • Global Language Online Support Systemhttp://gloss.dliflc.edu/ • An online language maintenance and enhancement tool • A collection of reading, listening, and video lessons (Learning Objects: LO) in 33 languages at ILR levels 1, 1+, 2, 2+, and 3.

What is a LO? • Self-contained units for developing reading or listening skills as well as linguistic and socio-cultural competencies; approximately one to two hours of on-task time • Based on authentic materials such as newspaper articles, broadcasts, and popular Korean soap operas • Sequence of content-based and task-based activities within a specific proficiency range

  6. What does a LO consist of? • An authentic text, audio, and video • 4-6 activities with extensive teacher feedback • A glossary • Cultural notes and area study notes • Grammar notes • Pictures • Links to related websites • Tutorial
