RICH IN GROUND WATER!!! Available Rain: Short Periods Heavy- ‘wall-like’ Ethiopia Statistics (Background)

Main Problem • Extreme Drought: Somali, Afar, Gode, Denan, Imi (S, SE, E and N areas of Ethiopia) • 3 years No Rain Season (April-May) • Harvest Season: June-Sept.  90% Staple Diet • Effects: • Virtually Producing No Crop • Ten’s of Thousands Animal Deaths  No Milk/Meat • 80-90% Cattle • 30-40% Goats/Sheep

  6. Project Proposal • Ground Water Use • Drilled Wells with Hand Pumps • Providing 500-1000 people • Rain Water Collection • Reservoir- catching system to funnel short, sporadic rain fall.
