HOME/OFFICE SECURITY SERVER Jason Anders EKU, Dept. of Technology, CEN/CET 2008
OUTLINE • Setting up security cameras • Setting up the EZWatch Pro software • Using the EZWatch Pro Software • Setting up Secure Personal Storage Space on Windows Server 2008 • Things that didn’t work out, but will soon be implemented
MOTIVATION • Personally, I want to know what goes on in my house. • To protect all the expensive equipment I own. • To have photo identification of a thief so that finding the culprit, and personal items will be easier. • So that people visiting my house can have their own personal storage space, kept separate from my own, and I can know what they do on my network.
INTRODUCTION • Face the facts, PEOPLE LIE! In every organization, there is at least one person who would steel from you or that organization. Cameras are known to prevent this, as well as catch them in the act.
INTRODUCTION • Many organizations store information on individual client machines. If that computer crashes, all is lost. Personal and secure storage space on a server is a much better route because regular backups are made easier. Also, you can allow/deny certain file types, and implement quotas on space.
SECURITY CAMERAS • PCI Card • BNC Connectors / 100 ft. cables • 2 Infrared Cameras • 2 Dome Cameras • EZWatch Pro Software
SECURITY CAMERAS • Installation • Configuration • Schedules • Event/Action • Remote View
SECURITY CAMERAS • You have to allow the appropriate ports to be forwarded through the router. • You can stream to a remote server for recording the video…a great feature!
FILE SERVER (Server 2008) • I left out quotas and file screening because Tony already covered this. • I used Active Directory for authentication of users on the network. • OS used consist of Linux and Windows • Linux made possible with AD Identity Management for UNIX and File Server Services for NFS
CONCLUSIONS • Security Cameras can greatly reduce theft and horseplay in the workplace, or at home. • Secure Network Storage is a more efficient way of keeping files, and keeping operating systems clean.
CONCLUSIONS • Things learned in this class include how to implement security camera systems successfully, better securing network connections, and secure network storage
FUTURE WORK • Biometric Network Authentication! • This was not implemented for this project due to compatibility issues with the reader and software. I’ll find a match soon! • ISA wasn’t compatible with Server 2008! • Biometric entry into the house via the front door. • This wasn’t implemented due to the cost, but will soon be done!
