But in order to work as a private security guard, you must convene a number of criteria. According to the California state government, obtaining employment as a security guard requires both a license and thorough training. In order to work as a security guard, you must possess BSIS certification. However, even before that, you must be at least 18 years old and free of any criminal histories.

The sessions, which may involve discussions, lectures, exercises, and role-playing, are taught using the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Power to Arrest Training Manual. 2. b) Weapons of Mass Destruction (4 hours) – In this training, you’ll learn how to inspect, recognize, and report the activities that could be precursors to terrorist attacks. The course is based on the Department of Consumer Affairs’ Digital Video Disc (DVD), Student Workbook, and Facilitator Manual Weapons of Mass Destruction & Terrorism Awareness for Security Professionals course. The FBI will run a background check when you finish the aforementioned training, and the California Department of Justice will receive your fingerprints. You may submit an application for a position as a private security guard when the truth is revealed, but you won’t be able to secure a full-time position. You must finish an additional 32 hours of training if you want to work as a full-time private security guard. 16 hours of training must be completed within 30 days of receiving approval for a guard card, and another 16 hours must be completed within six months of that approval.
