  1. What is 3D Printing? If you are new to the concept of 3D printing or are on the lookout for a reliable Metal 3D printer, knowing the exact purpose of a 3D printing machine is essential. 3D printing as the name suggests has something to do with the three-dimensional output. Using a 3D Model out of a CAD software , a three-dimensional solid object is printed on a 3D printer, also known as an Additive Manufacturing machine. Additive manufacturing involves creating successive layers of material to form the final model. Metal 3D printing allows the creation of highly complex structures which would be difficult or impossible to manufacture by using conventional technologies. As the structures are extremely lightweight and stable, functional optimization and integration without additional assembly steps are possible. Based on a CAD Model, material in the powder form is melted together layer – by – layer in such a way that a three-dimensional object results in the end. Material is added in precise different layer thickness to realize a completely functional Metal Part.

  2. Is 3D printing advantageous? For a number of reasons, businesses have begun adopting the 3D printing method. Not only is this technique highly advanced but is efficient too. Here are a few benefits of adopting the 3D printing technique: Manufacturing complex designs is easier3D printing enables businesses to develop models with complex designs at ease. When product owners decide to design their parts for Additive Manufacturing, that is when they utilize the most of this technology. It optimizes topology3D printing for metals gives you total control over the outcome. You can customize the design and structure of your model while making the otherwise tedious tasks achievable. It enables mass customizationIf you need customized designs with every print, 3D printing makes it possible to just modify the design on your software and print the required model. Get better efficiency at a reduced costIf your business requires making 3D models in small batches, in a usual scenario, this would be an expensive process using the traditional methods. However, 3D printing is a cost-effective option even for situations like these. Moreover, you can save time on product manufacturing or development with the speedy 3D printing process.

  3. Where can 3D printing be used? Now that we know what is 3D printing and what are its advantages let’s find out where is 3D metal printing’s cutting-edge technology commonly used: Aerospace, Space and Defence are among the few industries that have exponentially increased the use of Metal AM over the last few years. Metal AM can produce lightweight parts with optimized design. Such parts can be used as fully functional parts in required applications. We can print parts with complex geometries and defined aerodynamic properties cost-effectively and quickly. Saving materials and weight, reduces both the fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions. With EOS Metal AM Machines, we can print patient specific implants and medical instruments using medically approved materials. Using EOS Metal AM Machines, we can print Injection Moulding and Die Casting Inserts in Industry Grade Tool Steel Material which increases productivity with complicated conformal cooling channels.

  4. The jewelry-making sector has also begun adopting 3D printing, thanks to its possibility of creating complex designs. To summarize, The DMLS ( Direct Metal Laser Solidification )technology used by EOS metal 3D printers is also known as Laser Powder Bed Fusion, or short LPBF technology, and stands for one of the world’s most advanced and reliable technologies in metal additive manufacturing. This high-end 3D printing technology is used for serial manufacturing of (industrial) 3D printed metal parts for a wide range of industries. The main applications are aerospace, automotive, medical, tool and turbomachinery. EOS is the leading global provider for industrial metal 3D printers and has been using the DMLS technology for almost three decades. EOS offers a wide range of materials designed specifically for metal 3D printing using the DMLS technology. Depending on the need of your individual production you can choose an alloy from our extensive material portfolio. That could be aluminium, cobalt- chrome, nickel-based, refractive metal, stainless steels, tool steels, case-hardening steels, copper, and titanium alloys as well as precious metals like gold. If you too are looking forward to making this big switch towards 3D printing, Phillips Machine Tools is here to help you. Reach out to us for more information and guidance today!
