  2. What Is Music Therapy? • The Canadian Association of Music Therapists defines it as the purposeful use of music within therapeutic relationships by Certified Music Therapists (MTAs) to support development, health, and well-being. • In Memory Care, music therapy resembles methods for relaxation and stress relief used daily. It can complement other therapies based on the audience's needs.

  3. How Does Music Therapy Help with Memory Loss? Music therapy is referred to as a non-pharmaceutical method of treatment for those living with Memory Loss. It can be used to reduce agitation or aggression demonstrated by a person living with dementia. It can also be used to evoke happy emotions in someone who may feel depressed, isolated, or lonely.

  4. How Does Music Affect the Brain? • Music profoundly impacts the brain. The limbic system, responsible for emotions and behaviour, is activated when we hear music. This enhances blood flow and triggers the release of neurotransmitters, like dopamine, associated with positive emotions. • In Memory Care, music can evoke feelings of calm, relaxation, and happiness, particularly when linked to positive memories. Conversely, music with negative emotional ties can lead to distress for those with Memory Loss. Ref - https://memoryandcompany.com/blog/music-therapy-for-people-with-memory-loss/
