  2. Why? • We are about to start testing a number of Storage Solutions • There are many public domain disk benchmarking tools around: • What can/can’t they do? • If I see numbers from tool X can I compare those with my numbers from tool Y?

  3. Four BenchMark Tools • Bonnie ++ • http://www.coker.com.au/bonnie++/ • IOZone • http://www.iozone.org/ • Reader/Writer • Locally Written • TIOBench • http://sourceforge.net/projects/tiobench

  4. Benchmark Tool Capabilites ¯ With additional scripting

  5. Benchmark Tool Capabilites cont.

  6. Linux Local SCSI Disk Writes

  7. Linux Local SCSI Disk Reads

  8. Linux IDE Disk Writes

  9. Linux IDE Disk Reads

  10. Linux to SGI NFS Writes

  11. Linux to SGI NFS Reads

  12. SGI Local FibreChannel Writes

  13. SGI Local FibreChannel Reads

  14. Conclusions • Benchmarking tools show a great deal of variability even on simple tests, especially where memory caching may be a factor • Bonnie++ and IOZone Read and Write speeds and roughly comparable in most cases • TIOBench Write speeds are generally not comparable but Read speeds are
