Cadet Airman vs. Cadet Officer • Cadet Airmen (commonly referred to as GMC) • AS100s and AS200s • Wear slanted stripes on soft rank for service uniform and blues • Wear hard, blue metallic rank on BDUs and the lightweight blue jacket • Brown shirt underneath BDUs
Cadet Airman vs. Cadet Officer • Cadet Officers (commonly referred to as POC) • AS300s and above • Wear straight stripes on soft rank for service uniform and blues • Wear hard, black/silver metallic rank on BDUs and the lightweight blue jacket • Wear the prop and wings on flight cap • Black shirt underneath BDUs, sleeves may be rolled up
ROTC Greeting Guidelines • Cadet Airmen will greet and salute Cadet Officers • Cadet Airmen will address Cadet Officers as sir/ma’am • AS100s DO NOT have to salute or formally greet AS200s • Rooms DO NOT have to be called to attention for cadets • Cadet Officers will salute higher-ranking Cadet Officers
What To Do Outdoors • Junior member initiates the greeting, senior member returns the greeting • For officers and cadet officers, when 6-12 paces away (or when you realize that they’re senior) render a salute and a verbal greeting • For NCOs/Enlisted Personnel, render a verbal greeting only • Verbal greeting will consist of “Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening, Sir/Ma’am (or their name)”
What To Do Indoors • Render the verbal greeting only • Salute indoors only when reporting in/out or for ceremonial purposes (e.g. Awards Banquet)
Miscellaneous Info • “Rank To The Right” • Always be courteous • Use sir and ma’am, especially when speaking with officers and NCOs • Render the proper greetings to personnel from ALL services • Address other cadets as “Cadet ______” while speaking with them
Miscellaneous Info • NO SWEARING • No gum chewing • No walking across the grass in uniform • Remember that everything you do in uniform reflects upon the Air Force, Air Force ROTC, Det 225, and Valpo Flight
Flag Customs & Courtesies • For the playing of the national anthem or raising or lowering of the flag: INDOORS: • In uniform, face the flag and stand at attention (Only salute if you are “under arms”) • Out of uniform, face the flag and place your right hand over your heart or stand at attention OUTDOORS: • In uniform, face the flag and render a salute • Out of uniform, face the flag and stand at attention • Stand at attention during the playing of any service song
