History of Kaitseliit • November 11, 1918 – Instead of a self defence organisation Kaitseliit (Eesti Kaitse Liit) which had been engaged in territorial defence during the Estonian War of Independence was established. • June 17, 1940 – The Soviet occupation started liquidation of the Republic of Estonia and Kaitseliit simultaneously. • February 17, 1990 -re-establishing of Kaitseliit in Järvakandi
The Goal of Kaitseliit is to rise the population’s willingness to defend the independence of Estonia and the constitutional order.
The Law of Kaitseliit • February 8, 1999- The EstonianParliament (Riigikogu) adopted the Law of Kaitseliit, which provides the position of Kaitseliit in society and national defence, it’s main tasks, structure, legal basis for operations and control and co-operation with other persons.
Members of Kaitseliit • Active member-a citizen of the Republic of Estonia, at least 17 years old. • Young member- a citizen of the Republic of Estonia, at least 15 years old. • Honorary member- an Estonian or foreign citizen, who has provided remarkable service to Kaitseliit. • Supportive member- an Estonian or foreign citizen, who recognises the aims of Kaitseliit and contributes to their achievement.

Victory Day Parade • The Estonian Victory Day (1918) has been celebrated until WW II with military parades, organized by Kaitseliit. • Since 2000, Victory Day parades have been organized by Kaitseliit again. • In 2006, the first Fleet Review in Estonian history was conducted by Kaitseliit in June in Saaremaa.
Co-operation with Rescue Board • Co-operation contract was undersigned 2007. • Members of Kaitseliit have mainly participated in firefighting and rescue tasks and have also helped in looking for missing persons.
Co-operation with Police • Co-operation contract since 2004 • More than 100 members of Kaitseliit have been trained to assist policemen • Members of Kaitseliit help during fires, in looking missing persons and chasing fugitives, during big events to keep order.

Goal of Naiskodukaitse • The goal of Naiskodukaitse is to support Kaitseliit in their task to defend all resources, - the population, territory and property - belonging to the Republic of Estonia and in developing the defence initiative of the population. • In Naiskodukaitse you may be in medical, catering or communications service, leader of the youth organisation (Kodutütred), an instructor, head of a structural unit of Naiskodukaitse.
Members of Naiskodukaitse • An Estonian citizen, at least 17 years of age can be an active member of Naiskodukaitse. • Naiskodukaitse has active, honorary and supportive members.
Basic training of Naiskodukaitse • Patriotic education • Catering • First aid and preventive medicine • Basic military skills • Drill • Communications • Weapons’ training Total 72 hours, you have to pass an exam to finish the basic training course.

The Youth organisation for girls - Kodutütred • The organisation was established on January 19, 1930 • A member of the organisation can be an Estonian citizen, at least 8 years old
Noored Kotkad • The organisation was established by a resolution of the Kaitseliit’s Board of Elders on May 27, 1930 • Members of the organisation can be all male citizens of the Republic of Estonia from 8 to 18 years of age.
Noored Kotkad Aims of the organisation: • to develop stability, friendliness, honesty, kindness and good manners in young people; • to develop diligence, leadership skills, decision-making powers, persistence, independence and self-control; • to deepen love for their home and country, prepare them for service in the defence forces; • to provide skills for helping those in need.
