Americans love the great classic movies. Some of these movies are over half a century old, but they are still popular. Many people believe that it’s more fun to watch the old classics than the newest Hollywood sensation. Some Americans have seen movies like “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Citizen Kane”, or “Casablanca” 20 or 30 times.
They admire the acting, the dialogue and the expert camera work of movies made in the 1930’s, 1940’s or 1950’s. Unfortunately these classics are not easy for foreigners to understand. Often, it requires considerable knowledge of not only English language, but also western culture to understand these serious films.
Asian students should read as much as possible about these movies before seeing them. Of course, the great classic movies lack modern special effects. But often they have a cast of thousands. You can be sure that these are thousands of real people and not computer animations.
