An Indian Experience Teacher Training Workshops - Background Professional Background: Four years teaching Physical Education / Special Educational Needs in Government Schools One year work for NGO Right To Play on Thailand Tsunami Project with responsibilities for the professional development of 250+ teachers in the use of sport and play for the holistic development of children aged 3-18.

An Indian Experience Teacher Training Workshops - Content • The Teacher Training Workshops aims to create and provide: • Understanding and awareness of the importance of sport and play for the holistic development of children. (mentally, physically, emotionally, socially) • Understanding and awareness of the values that sport and play develop such as; self-confidence, problem solving skills, concentration, respect, working together. • Experience through either demonstration, participation or actually teaching the activities and games that allow children to learn the important values for holistic development. E.g Cats and Dogs – concentration, attention, reaction, large muscle movement. • Logistics • Discussions with school owners about teacher training workshops • Numbers of teachers, date, time, facilities. • Confirmation – problematic to say the least!!! • Delivery.

An Indian Experience Teacher Training Workshops – M.A. Ideal School • Specifics • 3 Teachers • 16 children • Basement of building • 3 hours • I demonstrated games then the teachers delivered. • Results • Pupils to teach very good idea • Two amazing teachers • Highly interested, enthused, • Complete understanding of concepts • Requested more training opportunities • Owners complete interest/support.

An Indian Experience Teacher Training Workshops – Suryateja High School • Specifics • Whole School • Two outside spaces • 3 hours • Teachers observed games • I returned one week later and teacher taught a game • Results • Children take time to fully engage. • Teachers extremely shy • Children requesting games • One teacher completely engaged • Growing understanding of concepts • Requested more training opportunities • Owners interested /.support

  8. An Indian Experience Research Project – Objective findings The aim of the research project was to collect background information on teachers from private schools. The data was collected by use of questionnaire.. A total of 57 teachers who took part in the questionnaire, from New Little Scholars School, MA Ideal School and Suryateja High School

  14. An Indian Experience Research Project – Objective findings 45 of the 57 teachers questioned had been teaching less than 10 years. Many teachers questioned were actually in their first year of teaching.
