Overweight – Body weight that falls above the range associated with minimum mortality. • Obesity - The condition of having an excess of nonessential body fat. • Approximately 64% of Americans or about 127 million people are categorized as being overweight or obese. • Fat cells do not multiply when a person gains weight. • Fat cells inflate when a person gains weight. • Lack of physical activity is one reason a person might become obese or overweight. • Boys and girls have about the same prevalence for being overweight or obese.
