COMPILATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION STATISTICS: The Philippine Experience Background • First time that NSO will conduct a survey entitled “Survey on Information and Communication Technology of Philippine Business and Industry (SICT) • Undertaken in close collaboration with the Information Technology and E-commerce Council (ITECC) of the Office of the President • SICT is undertaken as a rider to the 2002 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI)

COMPILATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION STATISTICS: The Philippine Experience Objectives of SICT (Continued) • Specifically, it aims to measure: • the component of ICT resources and where these resources are being used by the establishments • the diffusion of ICT into the establishments from the various sources • e-commerce transactions of establishments from data on e-commerce sales/revenue and e-commerce purchases of establishments

COMPILATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION STATISTICS: The Philippine Experience Scope and Coverage • All information collected in the 2002 SICT refer to the whole year of 2001 except for Item 7 – (Employment and Compensation) which refer to December 2001 only • Undertaken nationwide and covers all industries covered in the 2002 ASPBI • Classifies industries into two categories: • ICT producers, distributors and service providers, and • ICT users

COMPILATION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND TELECOMMUNICATION STATISTICS: The Philippine Experience Sampling Design • Unit of enumeration is the establishment • Uses stratified simple random sampling in selecting the sample establishments with the updated 2001 LE as the frame • Has a total of 8,555 sample establishments nationwide in which almost half of it is located at the National Capital Region
