  2. What is Mansfield Aquatic Club? • USA Swimming Sanctioned Swimming Team • Grass-roots of the USA Swimming Olympic Program All of the athletes you see in the Olympic Games began with a team like the Mansfield Aquatic Club, somewhere in the United States.

  3. Philosophy & Expectations • 10 and under swimmers • Have Fun • Learn Proper Technique • Learn how to read a pace clock • Learn the expectations of behavior FUN & TECHNIQUE VS WORK

  4. Philosophy & Expectations • 11-12 swimmers (Intermediate School Age) • Have Fun • Further refinement of technique • Exposed to interval training • Coaches begin to stress work ethic • More emphasis on competition FUN & TECHNIQUE VS WORK

  5. Philosophy & Expectations • 13-14 Swimmers (Middle School Age) • Have Fun • Tweak Technique • Race specific training is introduced • Strong work ethic is expected • Competition is stressed FUN & TECHNIQUE VS WORK

  6. Philosophy & Expectations • 15-18 Swimmers (High School Age) • Have Fun (a different kind of fun) • Polish technique • Stroke and distance specific training • Fully committed to reaching full potential • Competition is what it’s all about FUN & TECHNIQUE VS WORK

  7. Success In Swimming PERSEVERENCE IS KEY • Success in does not come after days and weeks, but after months and years. • “Feel” for the water does not come overnight

  8. Swim Practice • Attendance • Not mandatory until high school age • Common Sense: the more a swimmer attends, the faster they will progress • Daily Routine • Swimmers in the pool. Parents watch from upstairs. • Swim Shop is open 5:00 – 8:00 PM Daily • Check the web site for facility closings

  9. Swim Meets • Uniform • Blue/Gold team suit – available in the D&J Shop • Team Warm-ups: purchase upon promotion to the Silver Team • Team Cap to be worn at all meet • Swimmers sit with the team, not with mom and dad.

  10. Swim Meet Classifications • Senior Circuit Meets – Elite level meets for swimmers of high school and college age. • “A” Meets – Highest level of Competition for swimmers age 14 and under • “BB” Meets – Experienced Swimmers • “B/C” Meets – Beginner Meets • Age Groups: 8&U, 10&U, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18 • Pools: Short Course, 25 yards / Long Course, 50 Meters • ..\My Documents\Time Standards.pdf
