  3. OBJECTIVES After this lesson, students should be able to: • define a noun. • identify nouns around you. • share ideas about nouns(person, place, animal, thing and ideas in the environment.

  4. THE EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH In the last lesson, we learnt about the PART OF SPEECH. We learnt that there are 8 PARTS OF SPEECH. Let’s name them: • NOUNS • PRONOUNS • ADJECTIVES • VERBS • ADVERBS • PREPOSITIONS • CONJUNCTIONS • INTERJECTIONS

  5. A noun is a NAMEof a : • PERSON • PLACE • ANIMAL • THING • QUALITY or IDEA

  6. WHAT IS A NOUN? • The NOUN is a word that names something. • They are names for persons, animals, places, objects, substances, qualities, actions, measures of time or quantity which can be pointed out, recognized and called a name. • It is the word that tells, what you are talking about.

  7. The following list includes examples of different kinds of nouns PERSONS: teacher-Ana-cousin-father ANIMALS: frog-mouse-zebra-alligator PLACES: home-Arima-woods-school THINGS: pen-photo-computer-ribbon SUBSTANCES: metal-air-water-food-oil QUALITIES kindness-heroism-beauty-hate GERUNDS /ACTIONS: climbing-cooking-reading-Exercising MEASURES: year-pound-inch-day-centimetre

  15. Look around you, it would be hard not to find a noun.

  16. When trying to find a NOUN, ask yourself this: • Is it a person? • Is it a place ? • Is it an animal? • Is it a thing? • Is it a quality? • Is it an idea? If the answer is yes for anyone of these question, then the word is a NOUN.
