  1. [Nutrients] Nutrients are substances which are needed for proper growth and development of body. Main nutrients are – carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals and vitamins + water and roughage

  2. [Carbohydrates] Energy giving food Consists of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen Sources – Bajra, Jowar, rice, wheat, jaggery, mango, banana and potato etc

  3. [Proteins] For growth and repair of body cells Body building foods Consists of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen

  5. [Fats] Energy giving food Stored under the skin and prevent heat loss from body surface

  7. [Minerals] For good health Do not provide energy Needed in very small quantity

  8. [Vitamin] Required in very small quantity Do not provide energy

  9. [Roughage – sources and functions] Fibrous indigestible material Sources – fruits, salad, pulses, Dalia Remove indigestible food Prevent constipation Helps to retain water in food Source for growth of good bacteria in stomach

  10. [Water] Help in absorption of nutrients from food Helps in removal of wastes from body in form of urine and sweat
