  1. 5 Innovative Ideas for Transforming the Way Your Kitchen Looks A good kitchen renovation improves the overall functionality of the room and provides a stylish face-lift to the space. However, renovating the whole kitchen is an expensive job. If you’re on a tight budget, there are ways to improve your kitchen’s look with a few simple changes. Here are some innovative ideas that can help you transform the look of your kitchen. Paint • A simple colour change can transform your gloomy kitchen into a bright, modern space. Paint the walls of your kitchen with a new colour that’ll match well with your cabinetry and kitchen floor. For your walls, you can opt for Greenery, the Pantone colour of the year. It’s a versatile colour and matches well with almost anything! However, if you don’t want to change the colour of your kitchen walls, then paint your upper and lower cabinets and the kitchen island. You can mix up colours between cabinetry to create a pleasing contrast. White is timeless and works for almost all styles (contemporary, country or modern). White cabinetry reflects the kitchen light and makes the room look refreshingly bright and beautiful. However, if you want to make an immediate impact, you can paint a small segment of your kitchen cabinetry with a neon colour. For example, paint the upper cabinets on one side or an open shelf. Add Sideboards • Kitchen sideboards or buffets can give your kitchen a nice makeover while also offering storage for your cutlery, napkins and other utilities. Place it against one of the blank walls or below an open shelf. Use its flat top to decorate with various items like ceramics and crockery. Put your creativity to use and create mini artworks with these items. You can also use a sideboard as a kitchen island. Replace your old one and see how stylishly it separates the kitchen area from the dining space.

  2. Dark Cabinets • Dark cabinets with stainless steel hardware are ideal if you have light coloured flooring and walls in your kitchen. Black or grey cabinetry adds warmth and a distinct style statement to your airy kitchen. The beautiful contrast creates a strong focal point. Reface Cabinets with Glass Insert Doors • Cabinet refacing or refurnishing can save you both time and money. It’ll keep the structure and location of your existing cabinet intact while completely transforming its appearance. You can add glass insert doors yourself following some simple steps: 1. Remove the existing cabinet doors and assemble all removed hardware in a secure place. 2. Measure the width and depth of the groove. 3. Mark lines on the inside of the frame of the door with carpenter’s square. 4. Secure the door with a clamp to the surface and carefully cut the marked lines with a circular saw. 5. Cut the corners free with a wood chisel. 6. Remove the wood panel from the cabinet frame and measure dimensions. 7. Cut Lexan glass as per the measurements. 8. Apply clear silicone to the inside of the door frame. (If you want to paint your cabinet into a new colour, then paint and dry it first before applying silicone). 9. Carefully insert the glass into the frame. Wipe off excess silicone and allow drying. 10. Fix your new cabinet door with the removed hardware.

  3. If you think it’s too much work for you, then you can get local interior design professionals to do it. Choose from different types of glass like etched, patterned, coloured, frosted or fluted glass. You can also add more flair to your cabinets by installing interior lighting. Get New Kitchen Backsplash • Change the look of your kitchen by installing new kitchen backsplashes. Available in a wide variety of materials like glass, wood, stone and tile, kitchen backsplashes are an integral part of a kitchen renovation. Mix and match with the colour of your cabinets, countertops, walls and floor. If you have different colours in your upper and lower cabinets, then choose a backsplash that has touches of those colours to match the style of your kitchen. You can also instantly change the look of your existing kitchen cabinetry by replacing old hardware. Install sleek knobs and pulls. Now that you have these ideas, its time to try them out for your kitchen. Good luck!
