  2. PROPER ENCLOSURE Reptiles and amphibians require enclosures that mimic their natural habitats as closely as possible. Ensure the enclosure is escape-proof and properly ventilated. Choose an appropriate substrate (substrate is the material that lines the enclosure), which varies depending on the species. Some reptiles and amphibians need moist substrates, while others require dry ones.

  3. FEEDING Offer a diet appropriate for the species. Different reptiles and amphibians have various dietary needs, including insects, small rodents, fruits, and vegetables. Some reptiles are herbivores, while others are carnivores or omnivores. Feed prey items that are appropriately sized for the animal, and dust them with calcium and vitamin supplements as needed.

  4. HUMIDITY Maintaining the appropriate humidity level is essential, especially for amphibians and some reptile species. Use a hygrometer to monitor humidity levels and mist the enclosure as needed. Amphibians like frogs and salamanders typically require higher humidity levels than reptiles.

  5. TEMPERATURE AND LIGHTING Most reptiles and amphibians are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature. Provide a temperature gradient within the enclosure, with a warm basking spot and a cooler area. Use heating equipment like heat lamps, heat mats, or ceramic heaters to maintain the proper temperature.
