Types of garden walls
Types of garden walls The infrastructures of our home must be perfectly made, both indoors and outdoors. Keep in mind that there is a wide variety of types of garden walls; therefore, we are going to review the most relevant ones. Having a solid structure that protects the entire enclosure is essential. There is no doubt that it is advisable to invest in a good wall system that can prevent landslides, water or mud runoff or, simply, a landslide. These problems can happen in our home. Walls built with good materials can be the key to turning the garden into a safe place, but above all, in a place with a pleasant and subtle decoration. In this sense, it is worthwhile to be consistent and aesthetically pleasing. Types of garden walls: wall with irregular ashlars A very interesting formula would be making use of the wall with irregular ashlars. It would give the site a more informal and historicist appearance, as if it were a wall or the remains of an old construction. This does not mean that it loses effectiveness at a functional level. It can have the same robustness and resistance as to be able to support any terrain that is adjacent to the garden. In fact, these types of stones are firm and completely solid. The layout should not be symmetrical or strictly organized. Ideally, they should be arranged in horizontal courses trying to keep a simple uniformity. When choosing the color of the stone, it is recommended that it be rather whitish or grayish. The walls should keep a simple and discreet appearance. Masonry: the irregular beauty This format was widely used in the Romanesque period (10th-12th centuries). There are several types of masonry; for this reason, we should look at the most relevant ones that may have some use in a garden. Wall without mortar: there is the possibility of building a wall with loose stones, either in an irregular or semi-rectangular shape. The idea is that it can offer an attractive and naturalistic aesthetic, stone to stone and without intermediate mortar. With mortar: the wall can be given greater consistency through the mortar that can better join the stones, leaving them immovable. In fact, some will be more salient and others more internalized. The chromatic diversity of this type of wall makes the space more dynamic. Normally, there is a tendency to use rather earthy stones, but those that are of a grayish hue are also of great interest, that is, those that we know as siliceous rocks. Types of garden walls: stone gabions Gabions / gabiones.es When we have a garden located in a place whose surroundings require a strong retaining wall, it is best to use stone gabions. They may not have an attractive aesthetic appearance, but they offer supreme functionality. What exactly are gabions? They are irregular stone walls that are wrapped in a wire mesh, that is, a lattice structure. Normally, they are used as small slopes to better protect the space against possible external landslides. If desired, terraces can be made to raise other small areas where plants and grass can be arranged. Without a doubt, it is a very interesting resource for the country and rustic style. The best thing about gabions is their strength and endurance. The use of concrete, an effective solution This material has been used throughout history for construction thanks to its versatility and for lowering costs. You will highlight its use mainly in the twentieth century. It is, without a doubt, a useful and effective resource for building walls. It can be used individually or as a mortar for stones. It molds very well and, once it dries, it becomes a very strong material. Aesthetically, it is not that it is very attractive; that yes, everything will depend on how we want to treat the surface of the wall. Other stones can be placed on top or it can simply go unnoticed and become functional. Wall-shaped flower pots and planters There is an alternative possibility to what we have seen so far. We are referring to the walls made with concrete planters or planters. It is the best way to give a green touch to the walls and make the environment more natural.
