  2. Bharatanatyam • Bharatanatyam is one the oldest dance forms in India, it has emerged from courts and temples of India. Before being registered as performing art, it was thought of as service to their gods. Women were taught by male gurus.

  3. Kathkali • Kathkali is another very old Indian dance form. It originated from Kerala. This particular dance form is story based, performers make use of facial expressions and gestures to tell tales and stories. Also, the costumes and makeup had great detailing.

  4. Kathak • Kathak is another popular dance form, it was initially only performed in courtyards and village squares. This dance was used to narrate tales of Indian mythology through expressions and gestures. Kathak is form quite popular in Bollywood movies.

  5. Mohiniattyam • Mohiniattyam has its roots in southwestern of India. It means the dance of enchantress, it has very graceful movements, costumes, beautiful accessories and hairstyles to go with it. It is very pleasing to look at, performances can be quite hypnotic, as it enthralls the audiences. The eye movements and all the swaying can be out of this world. This dance form has evolved as many new steps have been added to it by the gurus. Initially only the females performed it but now males are equally good at this dance style.
