  1. What Is the Best Age to Have Eyelid Surgery OKC? If the skin around your eyes and eyebrows has become droopy or puffy, you may be considering eyelid surgery OKC. This procedure, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids. In addition to tightening your skin, eyelid surgery may improve your field of vision. To have this procedure, your doctor or surgeon must determine that you are a qualified candidate; part of this includes consideration of your age. The minimum age to have blepharoplasty is 18; however, most candidates are over 35 years old. Most are at least in their mid-30s because that is when your skin begins to lose elasticity. What Else Determines Candidacy for Eyelid Surgery OKC? Your eye doctor will consider more than your age to determine if blepharoplasty is right for you. They will consider whether: You are in good overall health. While blepharoplasty is a minor surgery, there are risks that patients should consider (as with any surgical procedure). ● You have realistic expectations regarding procedure outcomes. Blepharoplasty will tighten your skin, but it will not eliminate wrinkles or dark circles. ● You have certain ophthalmic conditions. Any eye surgery can aggravate dry eye or glaucoma, so blepharoplasty is not recommended if you have either. ● Based on this information, your eye doctor can determine whether the procedure is the ideal solution for your eye care OKC needs. During your appointment with BVA, Dr. Britton or one of our other leading eye doctors can determine whether your surgery will be cosmetic or medically necessary. While the procedure will be performed in the same way, cosmetic diagnoses are often not covered by insurance. Blepharoplasty is considered “medically necessary” if the upper eyelids impact your field of vision or a malpositioning in your lower eyelid is causing abnormal tear flow. Quality Eye Care OKC Dr. Britton and the team of experienced doctors and surgeons at BVA can help you achieve a clearer quality of vision. We specialize in a range of eye care procedures, including eyelid surgery, LASIK, cataract treatments, and more.
