  1. The Top 5 Fears People Have About Going to Rehab

  2. Fear is a powerful motivator. It can make people change dramatically if the consequences of inaction are strong enough. • If you are a drug addict and have a near death experience, like an overdose, it might get you to a drug treatment program. • Fears are negative by nature, but by facing them head on and conquering them, you can turn each one into something positive.

  3. Here are 5 of the most common fears faced by addicts who are on their way to a drug rehabilitation program: 1. Fear of Judgement • Most addicts hide their addiction, and even though they want to get better deep inside, they stay in addiction so they don’t have to come out and be judged. • No one really wants to be known as an addict, but hiding it is worse. • Most close family and friends will be encouraging about your new journey, and it’s a huge relief to be free of it.

  4. 2. Fear of Failure • This is likely a fear present in most addicts even before their addictions took off. • But then again, who doesn’t feel afraid of failure? In most cases, people succeed at a variety of different things if they put in the effort. • If there has ever been a time where you doubted yourself, but rose above that fear, you can do it again, except, this time in a drug treatment program.

  5. 3. Fear of a New Life • New is usually a good thing in people’s lives. A new car, a new girlfriend, a new job, all of which are things to celebrate. • But for an addict, fear of a new life is real. • Years upon years trapped in the chains of addiction don’t help a person want to change. • There is comfort in the same old, same old. As the negativity begins to drain from you in recovery, you can see it instead as redefining yourself and changing your story.

  6. 4. Fear of Losing Relationships • When the reality of rehab sets in and you realize that you are going to be gone from your family and friends for a long time, it creates a lot of anxiety. • You might be gone for a while, but if the people in question care about you, they will be around when you come back and your bonds will become stronger than ever due to your sobriety.

  7. 5. Fear of Opening Up • Many alcoholics have suppressed their feelings for years. • Opening up and discussing those feelings can be very difficult. • Rehab is the best place to do it. • Get it out, be honest and you may gain a sense of peace you didn’t have before.
