  1. Dress Smartly If You Want To Be Taken Seriously

  2. If you want to get on in the world, certainly when it comes to work, then you need to be taken seriously, and that means dressing smartly. Unfortunately, in today’s world, many men believe that it’s fine to turn up to the office in jeans and a T-shirt. Of course, if your company allows that, then you can do it. But you need to consider whether you want a “job” or a career. If you want to get on and get promotion, then you need to stand out from the crowd, and the way that you do that is to wear a smart suit and tie. Apart from anything else, it tells your boss that you take your job seriously. Back in the day – we are talking about the 1920’s to 1950’s – you also had to wear a hat, very often a trilby. A little later, if you were a salesman visiting customers, you didn’t necessarily have to wear the hat, but you had to carry it with you in your hand. How things have changed! But a smart suit and tie shows respect, and that gains you respect in turn. Talking of ties, we have noticed another development recently, and that is that some men are wearing a tie, but the knot is ½” or 1” below the top of the shirt collar. That is a definite no-no. It should be tied properly and leave no gap, preferable with a Windsor knot.

  3. Cohesion You can wear whatever colour suit and tie you wish, but when it comes to shoes there is something to take into account and that is that the shoes should match the suit. We have seen a few men, such as a certain BBC weather reporter, wearing a dark charcoal suit – which is fine – but with light brown shoes! That’s another no-no. And another, also in a dark charcoal suit wearing a light green tie! For want of a better word, think cohesion. Of course, the other thing that you need is a pair of smart cufflinks to round off the whole appearance. Choose from our range of designer cufflinks, and once again, wear a pair that goes with the tie that you select. So, if you wear a dark suit with a blue tie, which is smart, then you wouldn’t wear green cufflinks with it. There is an old saying “blue and green should never be seen together”, and it’s true. It's not a problem anyway, as we have a huge selection of cufflinks from which you will find pairs that match perfectly with your collection of ties on your tie rack.
