  1. 6 Ways to Keep Your Home Clean and Dry in Wet Weather

  2. Wet weather can wreak havoc on our nice, clean homes, and soon have us tearing our hair out as fresh muddy pawprints and dirt find their way inside – and in next to no time, throughout the entire house. To keep your home as clean as possible during wet weather, try out these 6 top tips:

  3. Make one entrance, the main entrance Having just one entrance for paws and feet to come inside after time spent outside in the rain, helps you to minimize the amount of cleaning you need to do, and makes it easier to contain the mess in one small area. Whether it’s the front, side or rear door, try to choose one that leads into a non-carpeted room (to avoid staining a carpet or rug) and with minimal furniture. If you have a garage or a laundry, those spaces would be ideal.

  4. Place mats at every entrance If it’s not possible for shoes to be removed before anyone steps inside your home, then at least have a mat directly inside the entrance so that they can take their shoes off on the mat, or at the very least, wipe their feet on it. Pets can also be made to walk on the mat before coming inside. Teach pets and kids to stay on the mat Once you’ve got mats in place at every frequently used entrance, try to get your pets and kids to stand on it and wait while their shoes are removed or their paws are wiped clean.

  5. Hire a cleaner While your cleaner might not be there every time a person or pet comes inside your home during, or after, a rainstorm, if they visit your home often enough, they can at least make sure the area inside your door is spotlessly clean, helping to minimize the spread of mud and dirt throughout the home. Make sure muddy shoes stay off the floor It’s all well and good to have everyone who comes through the door remove their shoes or boots, but if there’s nowhere to put them, they’ll end up on the floor where the dirt and debris can easily be spread around. Boot trays and shoe racks are ideal, and these can even be taken outside and hosed down once the rainy period has ended.

  6. Keep towels inside the entrance Sometimes, when the weather is really bad, it’s more than just muddy feet and paws you have to contend with, it’s entire wet bodies! Having a towel or two directly inside the entrance means that people and pets can wipe themselves down before coming fully inside your home. Wet weather is miserable for most of us, but it doesn’t have to dampen our spirits inside our homes. Keeping a clean home during wet weather is easy when you hire a cleaner, and by following the above tips, you can minimize the hassle and mess in between their visits.
