Our bathrooms are in constant use, and whether your household is a full one, or you live alone, your bathroom will still need cleaning regularly. With these simple, bathroom blitzing tips, you could have your sinks, toilet, shower and tub sparkling clean in next to no time. Toilet cleaning: • The bowl/pan Your toilet will quickly get grubby, and in time, a layer of grime and bacteria can build up at the bottom of the pan. This is often tricky to remove with simply a
toilet brush, even if you use a harsh cleaning chemical at the same time, but we have 3 tips to help your bog bowl sparkle! • Denture tablets – dropping a couple of these inexpensive denture tablets into the bowl and leaving them overnight, should see the pan looking spotless the next morning after flushing. You may have to give it a light wiping or scrub, but minimal effort should be required. • Coke – Cola that has not gone flat, poured into the toilet and left for at least an hour, should prove a quick and cheap formula for removing stubborn stains once flushed.
Bicarbonate of soda – toilet pans get smelly quickly, but neutralising the odours is as easy as pouring a cup of bicarbonate of soda into the pan once a week. • The exterior Once you’ve cleaned the bowl and pan of your toilet, you can concentrate on the exterior. Here are some areas of your toilet that you might need to pay extra attention too:
The flush handle – this part of your toilet is probably riddled with germs and bacteria, as people rarely wash their hands before they use it, and it canbe easy to forget about it when cleaning. Just use your regular anti-bacterial product or hot soapy water to wipe it down regularly. If you’re pushed for time, simply use an anti-bacterial disposable wipe. • Seat, lid and rim – use your regular anti-bacterial spray to clean the seat and the rim, or hot soapy water and wipe dry with a cloth. You may need to use an old toothbrush or similar style brush to ensure that the hinges and joints of your toilet are kept sterile, too.
Seat and lid again – just to give your seat and the lid an extra sparkle, you can simply spray some window cleaner on and wipe it off. • Tub cleaning: We often forget to clean our bath tubs, and while we use them to soak in and keep ourselves clean, where do you think the grime and dirt from our bodies ends up? If you want to avoid a greasy ring from building up on the inside of your tub, don’t use oily bath preparations, or if you really want to use them, make sure that you clean the tub (even if only quickly) after the water has drained out.
Shower cleaning: A simple and cheap solution to keeping your shower and shower curtain/screen free from limescale and grease, is to spray it liberally with vinegar and wipe it off. If you don’t like the smell of vinegar, you can add some lemon juice to the solution. If your bathroom needs more than a quick clean, you could use the services of a professional cleaning company, who could spend a few hours scrubbing and disinfecting it from top to bottom.
