With modern lives becoming increasingly busier, allowing for less time for such activities as cleaning and tidying, we have all had to learn to adapt and devise new ways of getting important tasks completed efficiently. With more and more of us working to support ourselves, less time is available for housework, and for those who don’t employ a cleaner or use the services of a cleaning company, finding the time to keep a clean home is a constant battle. However, with these simple tips and methods, cleaning your bathroom and the floors in your home need not take a lifetime:
Top to bottom…always! With any room in your home, always start cleaning from the top to the bottom, to avoid having to clean twice. If you have ceiling or extractor fans that have gotten grubby, clean them first so that any debris that falls can be cleaned up along with anything else that might have fallen to the floor, at the end of your cleaning session. Cleaning your floors and then being forced to do them again, due to ceiling grime, is simply a waste of time and energy.
Spray, spray, spray! Once you’ve cleaned the top of the bathroom, take your favourite all purpose spray cleaner and squirt it liberally over all surfaces, the toilet, tubs and wash basins. Leave it on while you pour a bucket of soapy water over the floor. Using a wiper or squeegee, get rid of all the excess water and ensure that the floor looks clean. Next, use a solution of lemon and vinegar to clean any mirrors, making sure to not leave any smears when you wipe it off; newspaper is great for this task. Then you can wipe down all the counters and basins that you sprayed earlier and use a dry cloth to ensure that everything is dry.
Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! With the invention of the vacuum cleaner, many a domestic chore was simplified, and cleaning your floors in super quick time has never been easier, especially with the newest models of vacuums that have better suction and are more lightweight. The best technique for vacuuming every floor in your home is to start from one side and make your way across to the other. Try not to forget the corners of every room and use the vacuum cleaner attachments for more accuracy. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can get this done if you stick with it and don’t stop until every room is finished.
Mop any remaining hard floors: There’s a good chance that most of your rooms are carpeted, so the final mopping shouldn’t take too long. Always start at the back of the room, working your way towards the entrance so that you don’t step on any wet flooring that you’ve just cleaned. Usually, floors that have been, mopped will dry quickly, provided your mophead wasn’t soaking wet. And if that wasn’t quick enough for you, why not call up the professionals and have them whizz through your entire home while you’re at work? Doing so would give you peace of mind, not to mention more spare time to do the things that you really enjoy.
