While spring cleaning is an important task that many of us strive to undertake each year, fall cleaning is equally important. Once the weather starts cooling down and we move our social gatherings and family get togethers inside of the home, we want to make sure that we’re all clean and tidy. The holidays will soon be here, and nothing can dampen our festive spirits more than a dusty, dirty home. Here are a few areas of your home that will probably need some attention before you settle down for the winter months ahead:
Pantry primping: If your pantry is chock full of food items, then this task may be a little more time consuming, but it’s worth doing at least once a year, and fall time is perfect. Firstly, take everything out and dispose of anything outdated. Then, using the attachments on your vacuum cleaner, vacuum the shelves before wiping them down with disinfectant or your favorite cleaning solution. When returning the food items, make sure that all packets are sealed properly and stored safely so that there are no spillages or spoiled foods.
Closet cleaning: As the season begins to change, so will your attire, making fall the best time to review your closet and declutter. Go through your summer clothes and see what you want to keep in storage ready for the warmer weather, and what you might want to recycle or donate to a thrift store. Thoroughly vacuum your closets inside, including any shelves and drawers, and make sure it’s clean and smelling fresh before you return your winter clothing.
Curtain cleansing: During the warmer months it’s nice to be able to throw open the windows and air the entire home, but this does mean that your drapes or blinds can become covered in pollen, dust and general debris from outside. So, when the cooler weather approaches, take down all your drapes and window dressings and get them cleaned, either professionally, or if they’ll fit, simply throw them in your machine. Be sure to check the cleaning instructions before doing so. Refrigerator refreshing: In the same way that you cleaned out your pantry, do the same with your refrigerator.
Take all the food and drink items out, dispose of anything past its sell by date, and get rid of any items that have begun to grow mold (and there will always be at least one item!). Use this opportunity to review what’s in your refrigerator and perhaps make some changes when you next go grocery shopping, according to what you have been typically consuming (or not consuming) of late. Take any removable shelves and drawers out and clean them in hot, soapy water before returning them. Ensure that appropriate labelling is on food items that are not in their original wrappers, and take care to store all items so that no spillages or contamination can occur.
Carpet deep cleaning: You’d be amazed at the dirt and dust that is ingrained in your carpets and rugs, so deep cleaning them before fall sets in will help your entire home feel and smell cleaner. You can hire a carpet cleaning machine or call in the professionals, whichever is easiest for you. To give your home a deep fall cleanse, call a professional cleaning company who will take the time and care to clean your home from top to bottom, corner to corner.
