  1. How To Tackle Hard Water Stains In Your Bathroom

  2. Nothing makes a bathroom look grubbier and more uncared for than hardwater stains, and sometimes, no matter what you try, you simply can’t get rid of them. While hiring a professional cleaning team to help you is arguably the easiest option, if you have no choice but to clean your bathroom yourself, or simply prefer to do your own cleaning, here are a few tips to tackle hardwater stains effectively:

  3. Firstly, let’s look at what hardwater stains actually are Whether on your tub, faucets or glass doors, white, brown or greenish hardwater stains are ugly to look at, and they’re caused by water that has significant levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium in it. But as well as being unsightly, if hardwater deposits are left on a surface or object for too long, they can clog your sinks and pipes. How can you get rid of hardwater stains? While prevention is always better than cure, if it’s too late for your bathroom and hardwater stains have already tainted it, here are some tips for safely removing it:

  4. Hardwater stains on tiles While you can use a store-bought tile cleaner (always check which type of tiles you have before buying and applying any such products), it’s much cheaper and better for the environment to use a homemade solution of water, baking soda and vinegar. Simply make a paste by combining four parts water to one part vinegar and as much baking soda as is required to make the paste nice and thick, but not so thick that you can’t spread it. Spread the paste over the affected areas in your bathroom, leave it for up to an hour, and then rinse it off while rubbing at it with a non-abrasive sponge.

  5. Hardwater stains on glass Constant exposure to water will make any glass surface blurry and unsightly to look at, and if not addressed quickly, mineral deposits can stain it permanently. However, if some of the glass in your bathroom is already affected by hardwater, you can eliminate the stains by creating your own glass cleaning solution from four parts water to one part vinegar in a spray bottle, and adding baking soda before shaking the mixture well. Spray the mixture onto the affected areas of the glass, and after it’s sat there for a few minutes, gently scrub at the stains to remove them, with a soft cloth, damp sponge, or old soft-bristled toothbrush. Then, rinse the area with warm water and wipe it clean and dry with a cloth.

  6. Hardwater stains don’t have to be the bane of your bathroom. Get on top of them with the tips listed above, or better yet (because it’s easier for you!) ask a cleaning company to come in and blitz your bathroom once a week (or monthly if you prefer) so that such stains never get a chance to build up.
