Your bedroom is usually the one place in your home where you can relax, unwind and not worry about whether you have your make-up on or what clothes you’re wearing. You can go there, sit down or lie on your bed, and be yourself in your own little sanctuary. But if you don’t keep up with your cleaning duties within your sanctuary, it can quickly begin to look untidy and grubby, which is not conducive to a relaxing environment at all.
These quick and easy bedroom cleaning tips will soon have your sanctuary looking and feeling shipshape again, and once completed, you can look forward to a good night’s sleep: Pay attention to ceilings, nooks and crannies: ➢ ➢ You may think that cleaning the ceiling in your bedroom isn’t important, but if the rest of your room is clean and the ceiling isn’t,
well your room isn’t clean! This is especially the case if you have a ceiling fan, too. If that is covered in dust, then there’s a good chance that it’s helping to spread it all over the room. You may also need to wipe the walls down with a damp cloth and any pictures or wall hangings too. If layers of dust have been deposited on them (or even cobwebs), you could use the attachment on the vacuum cleaner to eliminate that first, and then wipe them down.
Wash drapes ➢ These are also often overlooked when it comes to our cleaning routine for bedrooms, but washing them will freshen them up and may even return them to their former glory, if they’ve gotten a little grubby or dusty. If you have blinds in your bedroom, these are probably best wiped down with a damp cloth or sponge.
Freshen up your bedding ➢ ➢ Turn your mattress and vacuum it on both sides, as well as underneath the bed and put all your bedding into the laundry basket. There is nothing quite like the smell of freshly washed linen to help make your bedroom feel like a sanctuary again, and you should really try to have fresh bedding at least once a month. If your comforters, duvets or blankets are bulky, you could consider
having them professionally cleaned, but you need only do this every few months or so. Dust everything else in your bedroom ➢ ➢ Whether it’s accent lamps, dressers or shelves, these will all be areas that dust will quickly build up on, and dusting them regularly helps prevent it from creating a thick layer that threatens to choke
you when you dislodge it. Vacuuming dust is often the best way to eliminate it without aggravating your allergies or making even more mess. Clean the flooring ➢ ➢ If you have hard wood floors, then you can dust (vacuum) them or mop them, and if you have carpets, then you can simply vacuum, or
use a stain remover if necessary. You could also consider hiring a steam cleaner if your carpet is particularly grubby. Clean out your closets ➢ ➢ Decluttering is a great way of ensuring that your bedroom remains your sanctuary. Too many items crowded into closets or strewn over the floor will only add to any thoughts of stress that you might
be experiencing, and so if you can sort through everything and get rid of what you don’t want or need (you may be able to give them to a thrift store or sell them in a garage sale?), your bedroom will quickly begin to feel like a sanctuary again. Cleaning your bedroom regularly will help it to remain the one peaceful place in your home where you can escape from the rest of the family and be yourself, so keep on top of the bedroom cleaning, if you want stress to stay at bay!
