  1. September 5, 2017 Local Locksmith Discusses the Different Kinds of Locks You Can Install at Home Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that offer your home the biggest protection. Case in point: the locks on your doors and windows. After all, without them, your home is a prime target for any ill-doer out there. Page | 1

  2. Hence, when you see that your door and window locks begin to fail, you shouldn’t delay replacing them. That being said, why get the same type of lock you’ve been using? Since you’re replacing your old one anyway, now might be a good time to install a different kind of lock that provides better security and a stylish flare. But which one should you get? Below are great options you can choose from. Knob Locks This kind of lock is found all over the house, from the bedroom door to your garage. As the name implies, this kind of lock has two knobs on both sides of the door: one is the lock and the other is the keyhole. Such doors are best used to ensure privacy, and are thus more suitable for interior doors rather than exterior ones. Deadbolt Locks Many front doors sport a deadbolt lock as they are the most secure and cost-effective. This is because they come with a metal bolt that slides into the door jamb. Hence, even if the knob is destroyed, the door is still barred by the bolt. There are many variations to deadbolt locks, with some sporting single or even double bolts for added security. Night Latch If you already have an existing door lock, you can reinforce it by adding a night latch. This kind of lock is installed on the inside surface of a door and locks automatically whenever the door is closed because it has a spring-loaded latch. For those who aren’t yet ready to invest in more expensive lock types, a night latch might provide more peace of mind without breaking the bank. Mortise Lock Should your household or business require added security, consider installing a mortise lock instead. Unlike other locks that are attached to the surface of a door, this one is fitted inside the door itself. Hence, a burglar cannot simply destroy the lock by hitting it with a hammer to gain entry into your home or store. Page | 2

  3. Keyless Entry Are you the type who keeps forgetting your keys at home? Do you have young kids who have a knack for misplacing keys? Then perhaps a keyless entry system is the lock you need. In essence, this system features a keypad where you enter a code in order to gain entry, making keys a thing of the past. Still not sure which lock is best for your home? Don’t worry—just get in touch with a trusted locksmith. They can look at your home, assess your security needs, and recommend the kind of lock that’s ideal for your abode.
