  1. Sustainable Fashion Trends to look for in 2020 2019 was a crucial year for sustainable fashion. Never before have so many consumers expressed their preference for transparency and social responsibility from top brands in the way they manufactured clothing. The State of Fashion 2019 dubbed it as the Year of Awakening, as fashion companies were brought to light that their old ways would no longer be acceptable. Rather, consumers demanded high-quality clothing created from ethically derived sources that are sustainable. Trends define the future and brands that don't have the courage to disrupt their old practices and adapt to new ones get left behind. If you're thinking about the latest fashion trends, the answer lies in sustainability. Here's what you should look out for in 2020:- 1. Algae-based Foam Most would never think that algae - the green slimy organisms growing underwater - could ever make a fashion statement. However, some brands have been using algae for creating eco-friendly textiles. For example, BloomFOAM is creating footwear that saves the environment by manufacturing soles out of algae biomass. 2. Kanye West showed off his new sneaker prototype from the Yeezy Fashion Line, manufactured in Atlanta using this innovative green-algae foam. 2. Pineapple Leaf Fibers Leather has been used in clothing and footwear for years, however, it's not sustainable. Pinatex, a sustainable fashion brand has been extracting cellulose fibers from pineapple leaves and disrupting the leather industry by introducing sustainable alternatives to leather handbags. Millions of tonnes of pineapple leaf waste are produced in places like Hawaii, the Philippines, and Brazil, and brands like Pintex are now beginning to capitalize on it. We'll be seeing a lot more vegan clothing and footwear being made from pineapple leaves since the processing of its fibers gives a peculiar mesh with a hardy and flexible textile finish, bearing a lifelike resemblance to leather. 3. Rise of Organic Fabrics Organic fabrics from organic cotton, bamboo, and hemp fibers are being used to create new lineups of clothing by brands. With various climate marches and environmental awareness campaigns initiated around the world by young people, many brands are shifting their lines towards the use of sustainable fabrics. Vegan Scout and Alabama Channin are names that commonly pop up when you think of durable clothing crafted using 100% organic cotton. And there are many more that will soon follow suit. 4. Koba Faux Fur Koba Faux Fur is a versatile fabric that is made from Kelp seaweed. It's a friendlier and more sustainable alternative to nylon and polyester. Vegan clothing companies and brands that are moving towards cruelty-free fashion are using this fabric for manufacturing their apparel. 5. Vegan Wool from Coconut Husks Coir, also known as coconut fiber, is the layer found between the hard shell and outer coating of coconuts. It's frequently used in the creation of sustainable doormats, mops, brushes, and mattresses. In apparel and fashion products, coconut fiber is used as a replacement for wool, due to its amazing drying and odor-removing properties.

  3. Polartec, Orvis, and Marmot are a few of the many well-known brands that have launched an innovative lineup of Coir-based apparel and products. 6. Banana Stem Sylk The Banana plant has long been used for its fibers since the 13th century in Japan. People are extracting plant-based silk and turning it into textiles of different shapes and sizes by using the stem of the plant. Banana stem fiber is now making a comeback in the fashion industry and there is even a company located on the island of Kosrae, Micronesia, that makes vegan wallets, paper, and purses using this flexible, sustainable material. 7. Resale and Refashion Resale stores are rapidly growing in popularity these days with fashion consumers buying second-hand clothing and luxury designer handbags at a fraction of their original retail price. Smart shoppers are buying vintage clothing and adding their own spin to it, resulting in unique, ‘new' products. 4. chic and original. And one of the best parts about Refashion and Resale shopping is how it diverts textile waste from landfills and puts it to good use, helping the environment while saving money. These are the top sustainable fashion trends on the rise in 2020. Unlike fast fashion, sustainable fashion is guilt-free and trendy. Innovative materials and sustainable products will continue to come to market and shape future fashion trends. The movement has already started, and it is here to stay.
