Concrete Polishing - How to Polish a Concrete Floor Hardcore Concrete
When you have your polished concrete floor installed, you will want to keep it looking its best and this is easier and much less labour intensive than most other floor finishes. The guys at Concrete Polishing on the Gold Coast can advise you on a simple proper floor polishing regime that will with minimal effort extend the longevity of your floor. To polish a concrete floor This needs to be done in stages:
1. Cleaning • First, clear the floor or any coverings and check it for cracks and other damage. • Fill any holes or cracks with specialized concrete filler, you can get one that is natural or you may decide to make a feature of any holes or blemishes so get a contrasting coloured filler. This filler must be completely cured before you polish the floor. • Sweep the floor and vacuum to remove any grit, dirt and dust. • Look at the floor and decide if you need to clean up any stains or mold by further mopping. For especially stubborn stains, try hydrogen peroxide or ammonia, but be sure to wear protective gear especially for the eyes and hands.
2. Get the right Grinder for you • Go to the hire company and inspect the different floor grinders that are available and chose one that feels comfortable for you and find out how to use it from them. There are wet grinders that produce no dust, but use lots of water and dry models that include dust extraction apparatus. The one to use depends on the job and the conditions you have to work with
3. Protective Gear • Always wear the correct protective gear including ear plugs, gloves, a dust mask and safety goggles. Wearing good quality safety boots with a good grip can help prevent accidents and it is important to understand the safety and operating instructions from the hire company so you are familiar with the machine or talk to Concrete Polishing companies on the Gold Coast
4. Coarse Polishing • Begin with a coarse grit polishing disk to get rid of any surface imperfections and bad stains using an even swinging motion, without overlapping too much. • This first cut should start at one end and systematically cover the whole floor. Try to work evenly and do not dig into the floor
5. Fine Grit • Once the first cut is complete start the second using a fine cutting disk with large even circular motions while avoiding overlapping. Any stains left should be lifted and the floor will look clean and even. • Extra fine Grit disk • This stage will give the floor a nice glass like sheen. Work again in a circular motion, but this time you need to overlap the circles as you go to get a beautiful finish. Rally work the disk to achieve and good even finish
Apply Concrete Floor Polish • Apply a suitable quality concrete floor polish, this seals the floor, making it stain resistant and increasing the luster of the shine • Polishing your floor is not an easy task, but it certainly is worthwhile as you will end up with a beautiful low maintenance floor that will last you many years. All it needs is a quick mopping each week and a touch with a floor polisher when necessary.
