  1. Wrist Fracture: Causes and Treatment Our hands are connected to our forearms by the wrist. The joint consists of 5 small bones called carpals. A wrist fracture means that one of these five bones has broken, or sometimes, the larger one out of the two bones that make up the forearm, the distal radius. In the latter case, the bone has to be broken towards the lower end towards the wrist joint to pass as a wrist fracture. Growing children, athletes or even older people can encounter a wrist fracture due to various reasons. Causes: A wrist fracture can be a result of practically any major tumble on the floor, but there are usually two kinds of ways you can end up with a broken wrist bone. Bone density of older people is low; hence, they can snap their wrist bones without even encountering a severe hit. They have fragile bones, and they need to be careful about going through even a minor fall. Younger people end up with wrist fractures mostly, because of contact sports like basketball or rugby. Another reason they might break their wrist bones is encountering an accident while doing some heavy-duty physical activity like skiing or biking. These fractures are more severe because they are results of serious hits that tend to shatter the joint of the wrist. A wrist fracture's first diagnosis is pain. The wrist will hurt tremendously in case of a fracture. Other symptoms include swelling, bruising and tenderness of the joint. Physical examinations are enough for doctors to detect a fracture in the wrist, but X-rays are also performed for surety. For fractures that result from high-energy activities, an additional CT (computerized tomography) scan is done with the X-ray, for identifying the pattern and exact location of the break. Very seldom, an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) too, is done for a wrist fracture. Treatment: Treatment of a wrist fracture has to have approached from two different directions. Identification of the location and the exact bone that has broken, and the age group the patient falls under. There are various factors to be considered- whether just one bone has broken or more, whether multiple places in the same bone has broken, whether there are other injuries that require attention too, whether there are torn ligaments or not, and so on. Before getting into the treatments involved, the fact that there is full assurance of complete recovery from a wrist fracture is necessary information. Ortho bone screw suppliers are contacted in case of surgeries. Surgically fix the bones and hold them together using pins. These pins are generally only temporary; patients have to wear a splint or cast for a few weeks after the surgery, after which, they undergo physiotherapy. 

  2. Only wearing a splint or cast to limit the movement of the wrist. This has to be worn for about 5 to 6 weeks and followed by physical therapy to regain the patient's strength in their wrists and restore their motion range. Screws and orthopedic locking plates are used for repairing a broken bone in reconstructive surgery with orthopedic surgical instruments, which is also called outpatient surgery. The patients that go through this surgery have to wear a cast for the following 2 to 3 weeks and then, go through physical therapy when they have transitioned from removable braces.   Wrist injuries and fractures are common types of fractures that don't need to be worried about. With the correct diagnosis & treatment, they have a 100% chance of recovering! Summary: Wrist fracture can occur due to various causes.
