Among them, the industrial scrubber is the most common. They are designed to remove harmful gas and particulates from the atmosphere. It helps to maintain the healthy and clean environment. The first scrubber is developed by Narcis Monturiol Estarriol in 1858. It is basically used for a submarine to remove carbon dioxide. Scrubbers are air pollution control device used to remove particulate or gasses from an industrial exhaust stream. They are to control the pollution to wash pollutant from the gas stream. They control the gaseous emission. They are also used to clean the chimney. Reasons to use POU systems are as follows- The gasses, solids or condensation of vapor produces the solid that collects in the ductwork in the process. To clean the solid built up requires lots of time and energy to clean the ductwork. To remove this solid POU system are used. The gasses which are used in semiconductor causes a fire or explosion resulting in the health and factory damage for this exhaust gas scrubbers are used. The gasses like chlorine and byproducts like hydrogen chloride can corrode metal and other material. This will increase the time of production. So scrubber is used to reduce the time of production. The toxic gasses like chlorine and hydrides are controlled by the POU system from any personal harm. The ammonium compound gets aggregate in the ductwork and generates unwanted particle which is removed by scrubbers. There are special regulatory jurisdictions that required to be met by industries. The POU control systems remove the air emission. There are various POU systems based on technology which is as follows- Wet Scrubber is used for cleaning dust particles, fuel gas, and air. They use water or some solution for cleaning. It is also used for fuel gas condensation. It traps and neutralizes harmful soluble gasses. Dry scrubbing is used for a treatment of waste water. They are also used for cleaning acid gas. It has two devices-
Dry sorbent injectors-It is an injector which uses an alkaline material to remove acid gas. Spray dryer absorber- It uses flue gas where the gas contacts with the alkaline slurry and slurry absorb the acid gas and form the solid salts. Solid salts are hence removed by the control device. Recycle systems- They are not that famous buy they are used for recycling for e.g. recycling hydrogen in a various reactor. Oxidation systems- There are four types of a system used to oxidize compound of interest. 1) Boxes of oxidation- In this system silane reacts with the oxygen and become silicon dioxide and water and deposits in the box. Here silane oxidized in an exhaust gas. 2) Oxidation of flame- Compounds are oxidized with the use of flames. 3) Hot chamber oxidization- Here oxygen is used for oxidation of flowing exhaust gas through the heated chamber. 4) Non flame oxidation- The oxidization is done with air without the fuel, gas, and flame and flows through the porous wall. Hotbed reactors- Here exhaust gas flows through the material which is reactive at elevated temperature. The compound reacts and gets converted into inorganic salts. Chemisorption- this system used material coated with a reactive chemical so that compounds are absorbed by the material and react with the coating or itself. Absorption with air oxidation- In this compounds I the exhaust gas are absorbed into an oxidized compound. Particulate removal systems- this system are used to remove the solid and condensable vapors. Benefits of using scrubbers- They are very easy to get installed and not big in size. The scrubbers can be regulated efficiently. They help in removing the hazardous emission of gas. They make the environment clean and healthy.
