The DC Short-Term Rental Alliance (DCSTRA) The DC Short-Term Rental Alliance (DCSTRA) understand the importance and benefits that short-term rentals bring to society. We are a group of local property owners, property managers and business owners who value the economic, social, and community benefits that short term rentals brings for our city. We hope to work with the D.C. government to see our city embrace and lead in this growth area. As the sharing economy continues to grow, more people are capitalizing on the opportunity to rent their homes, other real property, or even extra rooms to travelers through Airbnb or similar services for extra income. It’s a win-win in many cases—travelers experience places they visit as a local resident would, and the owner makes money. D.C Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie proposed legislation to regulate the home sharing platform Airbnb. This bill would impact the rights of D.C. renters to rent out their private properties. The proposed bill would require Airbnb hosts to obtain a business license and would restrict rental activities to only the host’s permanent residence. Additionally, the law would limit hosts to only 15 cumulative nights throughout the year of renting without being present — classifying more than 15 nights as a “vacation rental.” The law also imposes harsh fines on those who violate any provision of the regulations. We value the economic, social, and community benefits that short-term rentals bring to our local community and want to see the District of Columbia embrace the inclusive growth this opportunity affords our city. Add your voice and tell DC Council why you support vacation rentals in the District. http://p2a.co/NxMGIJ8?iframe=1
