July 14, 2017 What is Revenue Cycle Management Going to Be if GOP Proposal Gets Passed After a rocky start, the GOP are once again ready to try their hand at getting their version of the healthcare bill passed. Republicans have been very secretive about the entire drafting process, working on it behind closed doors and away from the prying eyes of outsiders. While there had been little known about what could be in the draft, the obvious anticipation is that the proposal will aim to repeal and replace significant portions of the Obamacare. The main concern of everyone awaiting this new version of the proposed bill is that it will ultimately deprive as much as 23 million people of their access to a viable healthcare system. Worrisome Budget Cuts In the past few months, concerns have been growing not only about the fate of the Obamacare, officially known as the Affordable Care Act, but also about the future of Medicaid and social security benefits. As reports have been circulating that the Trump administration will be severely cutting budgets to Medicaid, people have been scrambling to determine what will become of their coverages. Meanwhile, the eligibility requirements for disability benefits have also been beefed up, supposedly to strengthen measures against fraud. As it is, however, said eligibility requirements are already tough, making it a lot more worrisome for those seeking approval. It’s not only these requirements that will make it tough for the social security agency, but also the planned 10-year budget cut on the agency’s budget. With the tougher eligibility requirements, the expected consequence is that more appeals will be made, which takes time and money. Having to deal with appeals won’t be cheap, for sure, which is why there’s likely going to be a growing number of backlog cases, a scenario wholly disadvantageous to the agency itself in the long run. Revenue Cycle Management In the midst of all this, what is revenue cycle management systems’ new role in this new context emerges as a legitimate question. Foreseeably, it will remain to be an important facet for healthcare organizations, especially as they address the changes in their patients’ profiles. No matter what form the new healthcare bill will come in, what is certain is that there may very well be a good number of people who will be losing their coverages. To adapt efficiently to the changes, healthcare organizations and institutions must be on top of all the adjustments and revisions in their clients’ profiles. No wonder studies are projecting that revenue cycle management will continue be in demand--and to a much greater degree at that--in the coming decade or so. The best way for organizations to continue to thrive in the midst of all these legislative confusion, therefore, is to make sure that they have all the necessary support they can have in the efficient implementation of their RCM systems.
