Great portraits are often a collaboration between the subject and their photographer. You can hire the most talented professional to take your photographs, but without proper preparation, all potential of your photography session to be great will go down the drain. Simple as these tips may seem, they are important to ensure a smooth-sailing and productive photo shoot: 1.First things first: Ask for advice from your photographer. Every professional is different and has a different working style. The key to a good professional photo shoot is communication. Upon hiring your photographer, lay down what your expectations are and ask them the same. Photography sessions are a collaboration between photographer and subject, and knowing each other’s expectations will go a long way in making sure that you are on the same page. 2.Shoot location is an important element that should be decided upon well in advance. This is especially true when shooting outside of a studio or perhaps your own home. On- location shoots, especially outdoor shoots are particularly challenging because you are under the mercy of the weather. It is good practice to set your shoot schedule on clear days, unless a gloomy look is what you are shooting for in your project. When shooting indoors or inside your own home or at an event location, ask your photographer about supplies that they may need from you. 3.When shooting with children, make sure that they are prepped and ready for the session. Let them know what are expected of them way before shooting time and bring stuff they can tinker with during idle times. Long wait times can be a challenge for curious kids. You will save yourself and your photographer a great deal of headache by being prepared for the worst. 4.Prepare all the clothes you intend to wear during the photo session. Again, ask for guidelines from your photographer about the best types of clothes to wear on a particular type of shoot. Getting help picking out your outfits is probably best as they know what looks good on camera and which can be unflattering.
