  1. Buying Your First Shotgun? Should I Buy Buying Your First Shotgun? Should I Buy New Or Used? Here Are Some Useful New Or Used? Here Are Some Useful Tips To Help You Choose Tips To Help You Choose Before you purchase your first shotgun, some will tell you to identify what you will be using it for and how often you intend to use it, then some will tell you to purchase the first inexpensive 12g you find. If only it was that easy. Everyone makes their shotgun purchase for different reasons, to hunt or for sporting clays Shotguns work for just about anything. They can be used in the field and on the range, if you are good in the field, you will be good on the range. There are numerous opportunities for shotgun owners to practice their technique, you can attend a school or join a local range taking part in trap, skeet, or sporting clay shooting competitions. What may sound a little confusing, is that there is no gun better than the other, whether semi- automatic, pump or break. Championship shooting competitions have been won by those with over and under shotguns and those that shoot with automatics. Even the most experienced shooters have varying opinions when it comes to the best type of shotgun. 20g shotguns are the most popular with novice shooters and beginner sports people, as they improve, they usually want 12g gauge, which is bigger. This is just as the sportsman or woman develops and transitions over time. Once they become proficient with a 12g there are not too many options, except trying out the variety of 12g loads. A big decision you are going to have to make is whether or not to buy new or previously owned. When you buy new, you know it has never been fired, but the preowned selection usually offers a wider variety, favorable prices, and in good condition shotguns, if you take the time to look around. This usually includes the top brand names you recognize. Be wary of tactical shotguns, which are best suited if you want to shoot at a local range or shoot in a three-gun match, but they are not the best suited for sports and competitions. This is why you will often see tactical shotguns for sale, as the previous owners' go-to gun until they purchased a new one. There are also collectibles, which will be more expensive, this is due to them not being manufactured anymore. You can usually save around 20% on the purchase price when buying a pre-owned shotgun, but you need to take note of the condition and ask questions. You will want an inspection certificate, so you can feel confident when making a purchase.

  2. Always purchase from an experienced gunsmith, who will be able to make adjustments for you to ensure you are comfortable with your new shotgun to achieve a great sporting result. Choosing a gunsmith is also a big deal and you don't want to choose the first company you find.
