Gun and Rifle Enthusiasts All Have Their Own Preference All sporting enthusiasts have their own preferences. This is also true for hunters and competition shooters. The latter has several choices, one of which, the Krieghoff, is known to attract positive reviews and which continues to grow in popularity among clay shooting sports enthusiasts all over the United States. Today the Krieghoff is offered in a number of gauges, for example, the 12, 20, 28 and .410 gauges, all with their own following among shooters, and all to suit certain preferences that also consider the model that one shoots. The Krieghoff 20 gauge, for example, is a shotgun used by those hunters and shooters using, say, a Krieghoff K-20. What does the term ‘gauge’ refer to, or as it is called in the UK, ‘bore’? And why is this important? Think of the bore diameter of a shotgun’s barrel. Gauge is a unit of measurement that describes the inner diameter of the barrel. An example that explains it refers: Think of the number of lead balls that weigh one pound of an equal size that you can produce to fit the barrel. If 12 such lead balls, that weigh one pound, fit the barrel, then you have a Krieghoff 12-gauge barrel. The same is true for the 20-gauge shotgun to weigh a pound, and so on. Krieghoff is known for having brought a few leading 20-gauge shotguns to the market over time. The 20-gauge, when compared to, say, the 12-gauge, will offer better shootability whereas the latter will offer greater power. It is often a matter of choice which gun would suit you better for your discipline or profile, and which gauge would then be the one you use with that gun. Of course the Krieghoff name goes back to Germany to a time when, in 1886, the company was founded by Ludwig Krieghoff. At first designed and offered to be a leading hunting rifle for the European market, the brand later realized that there is another market out there. Therefore they took the opportunity to look into developing competition shotguns, which was realized when, in 1957, the first of these guns was introduced to the market, i.e. the K-32. Looking at a few Krieghoff options that one can buy today, it is clear that the shooters have choices, and certainly when it comes to the 20 gauge. Some may feel that the side-by-side Essencia is just the one for them, as it is an elegant-looking firearm that offers the best craftmanship and easily compares with anything that top European manufacturers produce. It is available in all of the gauges, right from 12 to .410. Attention to detail helps to set this firearm apart from so many others. For some it may be the ultimate. But, Krieghoff is known for the variety of top-class rifles and shotguns they continue to offer their growing market. One that stands out for its own reasons and features is the K-80/S. It stems from the original K-32, and with only a few technical modifications, it reigns supreme as far as many owners are concerned. Great detail appears on this gun to help it stand out above so many others in terms of aesthetics. It is also available in gauges ranging from 12, 20, and 28 to .410. Think, too, of the popular K-20 Sporting, for many ideal for competition shooting, the K-80 Sporting, and the K-80 Victoria, all of which offer a 20-gauge option. All of these firearms have proved over time that they can compete with the best that the market affords. Do not forget about the K-80 Sporter, the popular K-80 Parcours and a number of Krieghoff models favored by skeet and trap enthusiasts.
