Oral Cancer • It is a accepted fact that different events take place eventually to form new & abnormal growth of tissue in a part of the body. • During initial stage of cancer formation, various factors may damage cells at level of DNA. • Thus, not all oral cancers but most of them develop from cells. • Cancer can develop in any part of the oral cavity. Because each part of the oral cavity is different, oral cancer encompasses a wide variety of cancer types that are treated in different ways.
Oral cancer Types • Oral Cancer can be divided mainly into two things that are Erthroplakia & Leukoplakia. • Erthroplakia & Leukoplakia consist of important pre-cancerious conditions. • Erthroplakia: It is a red patch that cannot be characterized clinically, but is far less common than leukoplakia. • Leukoplakia: it is plaque or white patch that cannot be rubbed off & cannot be characterized like any other disease.

Pre Operative Care • DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to surgery. • For morning appointments, skip breakfast. • For afternoon appointments, eat something light. • Take any regular medications with only enough water to get the pill down. • You MUST have someone drive you home. • Plan to rest for the remaining of the day.
Post Operative Care • DO NOT SMOKE EVER orfor at least 48 hours. • Do not rinse vigorously the area with any objects. • Do not operate power tools, machinery, etc; for 24 hours after surgery. • SWELLING: Swelling is often associated with oral surgery. It can be minimized by using a cold pack, ice bag.
Post Operative Care • NAUSEA: Nausea can be reduced by preceding each pain pill with a small amount of soft food, and taking the pill with a large volume of water. • Keeping your mouth clean after surgery is essential. MOUTH RINSES: • Do not use a straw for several days. • BRUSHING: Begin your normal oral hygiene routine as soon as possible after surgery.
