  3. Scapula (shoulder blade) fracture have associated injuries Around 80 to 95% of people with a scapula (shoulder blade) fracture have associated injuries like: • Rib fractures • Collapsed lung • Bruised lung • Injury to the brachial plexus • Clavicle fracture • Head or spine injury

  4. The physical examination Doctors will try conducting a thorough physical examination. If an examination is conducted, the doctors may attempt to do the following: • Examine the skin to detect any open fractures • Note areas of tenderness, swelling, ecchymosis • Evaluate shoulder positioning and range of motion • Look for other injuries.

  5. After the physical examination usually, doctors suggest getting the image for the scapular fracture

  6. Few tests required to see the location and extent of the injury The test may include: • X-rays of the shoulder and chest·   • CT scan of the midsection and chest· • CT scan of the shoulder itself

  7. A neurovascular examination is done upon diagnosis to ensure nerves or arteries were not injured when the fracture has occurred. It is also suggested to test and compare the pulse in both arms.
