  4. The Beauty of • Up in the trees Combat • Swinging through the trees • Camera comes in OTS • Battle with swiftness & agility • Watch your balance meter

  6. The Beauty of • The Controls • Set camera or free camera • Could map L & R buttons to rotate camera • Balance • Gauge in corner of screen • Stop on tree, grab on to refill • Could be mini-games as well

The Beauty of • The Gameplay • Can invest 20 minutes or 2 hours – you’ll be good • 20 minute gameplay session: • Explore the forest, look for a mission • Could be in a village, a wandering NPC, etc. • Longer missions have ‘sub-missions’ with option to save • Have fun taking out baddies • Baddies leave stuff behind; also gain EXP & milestones • Go ahead! Swing through those trees

The Beauty of • The Gameplay • 2 hour gameplay session: • Again, explore the forest, look for a mission • Prime time to do a longer mission; for example • Defend a village from intruders from multiple angles • Be able to complete a few missions, or 1 or 2 longer • Don’t forget to have fun swinging or in combat

The Beauty of • The Story • Simple tale about childhood innocence lost • Entering gameplay, there’s a stone tunnel with a white light at the end and suddenly you’re the samurai • All you know through Act II • End Act II: Reach the forest’s edge • You’re in a suburban neighborhood; you’re a 10 year old • Fight your way to your house • Try and go back to the forest – final battle • It’s the death of innocence

  13. The Beauty of • The Story • Not many hints given • Some dialogue or events may seem out of place • Health goes down – fringes of your view desaturate • Never-ending forest • Forest starts acting weird • Marketing feasibility? • If not, a samurai displaced in China

  16. The Beauty of • The Forest • Dynamically changing environment • Day and night cycle • Different weather patterns • Use trees for combat, for cover, for fun • Trees bend, take damage, can even be destroyed/chopped down • Goes through the seasons • Looking at Speedtree middleware

The Beauty of • The Visual Style • A tale of two visual styles • Sumi-e influenced/calligraphic • Very minimalist, ‘cartoony’ • Realistic • Sells better, will show off graphics • Three Solutions • Go with one style, stick with it through game • Start realistic, end up sumi-e • Gameplay is realistic, front-ends are sumi-e
