  2. Answer to the Problem

  3. SpongeBob Answer Step 1) Count the number of letters in SpongeBob SquarePants. (= 20) Step 2) THINK: I can only use six letters starting with the 20 I must choose from. Step 3) If I use one of the 20 letters, I can then only choose from 19, then 18, and so on…until I get my 6 letters. Answer: 20x19x18x17x16x15=27,907,200 combinations Back to Main Screen Back to SpongeBob Problem

  5. Scooby Answer First make an area model. Remember than the contents of one bag goes on one side and the contents of the other bag goes on another side. One bag had 3 snacks: red, brown, green. The other bag had 5 snacks: 2 reds, green, brown, and blue. So your area model should look like this: BAG 1 R R G Br Bl The theoretical probability of getting 2 greens is 1/15! 7. Cinderella’s Closet • Use what you know about the Fundamental Counting Principle to solve. THINK: She has 3 dresses, 2 necklaces, and 4 pairs of shoes. 3 x 2 x 4 = 24 There are 24 total combinations. • Multiply the probability of getting each outcome. Think: There are 3 dresses, 1 is pink so that would be 1/3. There are 2 necklaces, 1 is gold so that would be ½. There are 4 pairs of shoes, 1 is glass so that would be ¼. Multiply the probability of getting each outcome: 1/3 x ½ x ¼ = 1/24 The probability of wearing a pink dress, gold necklace, and glass shoes is 1/24. Back to problem Main Menu
