Simple Hearing Exercises That Help Cope With Hearing Disorders

The misconception that all hearing disorders are permanent and irreversible is a common one. While certain impairments such as noise-induced hearing loss are difficult to treat, many cases of poor hearing can be addressed. This is possible through numerous easy steps and methods that you can practice to improve your hearing and ear function. The slow onset of age-related hearing loss may be inevitable, but it can be delayed by proactively strengthening your cognitive and circulatory systems, with the help of hearing exercises.<br>

  1. Simple Hearing Exercises That Help Cope With Hearing Disorders

  2. The misconception that allhearing disorders are permanent and irreversible is a common one. While certain impairments such as noise-induced hearing loss are difficult to treat, many cases of poor hearing can be addressed. This is possible through numerous easy steps and methods that you can practice to improve your hearing and ear function. The slow onset of age-related hearing loss may be inevitable, but it can be delayed by proactively strengthening your cognitive and circulatory systems, with the help of hearing exercises.

  3. Attention to overall well-being It is important to remember that listening is not made possible by the ears alone. The functioning of the brain is equally important for clear hearing. The different systems of the human body are interconnected and therefore, it is not enough to focus on the ears alone. For instance, hearing can be impacted by the food we consume. The minerals magnesium and potassium have been found to stave off ear tissue damage and improve hearing health. Bananas, broccoli, salmon and beans are mineral and vitamin-rich ingredients you should look to incorporate into your diet.

  4. Another essential factorin general health is cardiovascular exercise. It is well known that cardio exercises are important as they target the most important muscle in the human body – the heart. However, studies have linked high levels of cardiovascular activity to similarly high levels of hearing sensitivity. The primary benefit of cardio exercise is improved blood circulation. This results in proper supply of oxygen and nutrients to the ears and the brain and maintains a high level of performance.

  5. Exercise your brain Apart from poor listening, the other serious complication associated with hearing loss is reduced cognitive function. Simply put, keeping your brain sharp and in good condition leads to fewer hearing ailments. Research indicates that hearing loss has an adverse effect on the functioning of the brain and is accompanied by reduced awareness, poor comprehension and slower understanding. One of the best ways to exercise your brain is through puzzles and games. Sudoku, Scrabble and other games that are strategic in nature provide excellent cognitive stimulation. Similarly, brain teasers and crossword puzzles are a fun way to keep your mental functioning sharp.

  6. Practice your listening Hearing exercises are a fantastic method to exercise your ears and brain simultaneously. The advantage is that they can be practiced easily and quickly while sitting in the comfort of your home. There are a variety of creative hearing exercises that are fun to do and very effective. Music can play a big role in improving your hearing. Music training, as it is called, involves you playing music in the near vicinity, at a volume that isn’t too loud or painful but just enough to make you strain and try harder to listen and hold conversations.

  7. Similarly, you can attempt to simulate an outdoor environment in your home by switching on the television or the radio and practicing conversing while ignoring the background noise. This sharpens your hearing and allows you to be more comfortable when you venture outdoors into public spaces.

  8. Take it up a notch by practicing finding the source of a sound. It is an entertaining exercise where you attempt to uncover the source of a sound that has been hidden in your close surroundings. This improves your ability to identify the distance and direction of the sound in relation to yourself. The best example of the 'easy-to-do' nature of hearing exercises is sound recognition. Close your eyes for a few minutes and attempt to pick out all the different sounds in your immediate vicinity. The exercise can be repeated in different places such as a park, your house, the workspace or a mall for varying degrees of difficulty. The more you practice, the easier it becomes to identify the different sounds and the distances they are coming from.

  9. Start a daily yoga routine The numerous benefits of yoga are well documented and fortunately, there are poses and postures which help your hearing as well. Yoga drastically improves blood circulation to the ears and the brain, which has a positive effect on your hearing. Yoga has been found to be particularly effective at easing tinnitus. While not a condition in itself, it is a symptom associated with hearing loss and a very common one, affecting 15 to 20 percent of people. Tinnitus is the term given to noises perceptible in the ear, usually, a ringing sound that surfaces randomly before fading away.

  10. A few important yoga postures - · Cobra pose, or Bhujangasana · Bow pose, or Dhanurasana · Tree pose, or Tadasana · Triangle pose, or Trikonasana These postures are especially helpful in improving blood circulation to the head. Other simple exercises include rotating your head clockwise and anticlockwise for a minute each and lying down sideways.

  11. While these exercises will aid you to a certain degree, it is important to remember that hearing exercises do not give instantaneous results. Keep in mind that you are gradually working towards a long-term goal. Do not give up if results do not surface at once. The effects of maintaining a healthy diet, exercising daily and stimulating your cognitive and heating functions become apparent only later. Hearing exercises do not offer a miraculous cure. Instead, they slow down the natural degradation of your hearing capability and enable you to maintain proper hearing longer into your life.

  12. Most importantly, do not compromise on basic ear care and maintenance even if you are practicing hearing exercises. The best hearing problem solution is practicing all the necessary requirements at the same time. Always undertake hearing testsat regular intervals. This allows you to identify any problem while it is in the early stages. If you have significant trouble hearing, always use a hearing aid, for your own well-being and safety.
