  2. The bomber jacket has a certain aura and mystique attached to it. The jacket came into prominence in WWII and then became a pilot’s staple wear in later wars like the Vietnam and Korean Wars. It mutated to the fashion scene and today its evolved cousins reflect a DNA but with the basic chromosomes remaining unchanged.

  3. The Men’s bomber jacket even had names modelled on aircraft names. For instance, the earliest mutation was the MA-1 designed for wear by pilots in cold and cramped cabins. The basic construction is a jacket that ends just above the hips and has buttons or elastic around the sleeves and neck. The MA1’s earlier cousin was made from horsehide leather with button closure, flat front pockets and a neck flat. 

  4. The B-15 basic design became a favorite and was in use between 1949 and 1950. The MA1 then arrived on the scene to replace the B-15 which had fur collars with a tendency to get caught in parachute harness. The refined MA1 did away with the fur in favor of knit collar and had an orange liner. The main body fabric was nylon chosen for its water-resistant properties.

  5. The Men’s bomber jackets are thriving and have gotten a face list down the decades. Today, functionality takes second place to style and one can get a few variations on the basic MA1. The waistline, for instance, has increased to drop down below the hips for better protection and of course a different style statement. The sleeves may or may not sport knit elastic cuffs. There may be no top chest level zipped pockets.
