  4. First Aid Procedures FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY • CONTROL BLEEDING • CLEANSE WOUND • REPORT BITE • SEEK MEDICAL FOLLOW UP • NOTIFY THE COUNTY

  5. Helpful Information DOG AND CATE BITES • Animal quarantine is required if rabies status is unknown. • High frequency of wound infection with pasteurella and other oral pathogens. • Likely to require antibiotic treatment.

  6. Helpful Information REPTILE AND BIRD BITES • Possible exposure to bacterial pathogens that sometimes require antibiotic treatment for deep wounds.

  7. Helpful Information LARGE ANIMAL BITES (COWS/HORSES) • Animal quarantine is required if rabies status is unknown. • Extent of medical care depends upon the degree of tissue trauma.

  10. TIME TO TAKE A TEST

  11. 1.  If you are bitten by an animal, but have no bleeding you should • a.  Apply continuous pressure to the area • b.   Do nothing and continue working • c.   Rinse the area for 30 seconds • d. Wash the area immediately with soap and water for at least 5 minutes
