    4. What do we mean by Prevention In Luton? Helping to build a stronger community infrastructure in neighbourhoods/localities. Provide accessible public services for all citizens but in particular those vulnerable adults who need additional support to play an active role as citizens of the town Promoting the health and well-being Support aimed at improving life chances Supporting the provision of access to information and services (Information may be readily available in a specific language or promoted in a way to reach culturally, diverse communities.)

How we deliver We have 13 community centres across the town The 13 centres have a team of staff who are part of our strategic housing division Each community centre has its own management committee with ward councillors, local people and a dedicated LBC employee. Each centre has its own programme of activities signed off by the management committee and shaped by local people and interests. In addition each centre gives us a strategic partnership the chance to use the facilities to target sevices

    9. Targeting Groups The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment is central to our approach. During its development phase it informed all work is developing a Sustainable Community Strategy, all LAA Targets and all Corporate Plans

    11. How do we make a difference? Affordable Warmth We have a well established service which covers: Warm Front Grants Lost and cavity wall insulation Emergency radiator loan Have ‘Fire Safety’ Scheme In 2008 we added a new HANDYMAN scheme free to those on benefits or Ł15 per hour Its function is to add to the security of property and contributes to decent homes. Latest Initiative: Thermal imaging for heat loss, overlaid with over 65’s population over overlaid with council stock, in order to: Decent Homes – Programme Tackling Heat loss InTouch Service

    12. Keeping population active, fit, alert and engaged A programme sponsored and supported by H&CL, PCT, BLPT with many strands. Active Luton Chair based exercise ‘Light and Easy’ programme in sheltered scheme in Dallow where levels of inactivity in an BME community were of concerns now rolling out in 2009 to all sheltered schemes. Adult Learning 50p for 50 plus campaign Fitness, dancing, life savings Counterweight and mend programmes Luton PCT/Active Luton Luton Arts Dance, Music, Street Dance Luton Museums and Parks Programme walks through nature conservation Exercise Station in the discovery garden at Stockwood Discovery Centre Take 3 for Life in May campaign
