  3. Why Should You Upcycle? It is probably the best thing to do if you are on a tight budget. It is also a wonderful way of extending the life of your antique furniture. Furthermore, taking on such type of projects may prove to be rewarding and fun.

  4. Why Should You Be Creative? Choosing an item to upcycle is one thing but applying your creativity to turn it into something sensational is the most exciting part. So, it is important for you to broaden your horizons while you are choosing a piece of furniture for upcycling.

  5. What Techniques Can You Use? The tools and techniques you are going to need actually depend on the type of project you are taking on. However, in the next section I’ll outline some of the ways that will give you an idea as to how to upcycle furniture with sideboard.

  6. SUPPLIES REQUIRED TO MAKE A BEAUTIFUL UPCYCLED SIDEBOARD Some of the supplies you may need include: ·         Nail Gun ·         Measuring Tape ·         House Strap Hinges ·         Blades & Jig Saw ·         Pencil ·         Wood Boards ·         Kreg Jig ·         Spray Grip and Spray Paint ·         Dust Sheet ·         Knobs ·         Sandpaper

  7. PREPARE THE SIDEBOARD Make sure that your chosen sideboard is free of dirt and dust. Remove the old knobs and flaked or loose pieces of varnish and wood. The Upcycling Process CHOOSE YOUR COLOURS You can choose more than one colour if you like. There really are no rules here. However, ensure that those colours complement one another. UNDERCOAT It will be easier for you to paint your sideboard if you’ll undercoat it. Scuffing occurs naturally on edges and corners so make sure that you cover them first.

  8. START PAINTING Keep applying coats until you get the desired result. 2 to 3 coats are normally enough. LET THE PAINT DRY BETWEEN COATS The Upcycling Process A coat of paint usually takes about twenty minutes to dry. You might wanna take a tea break at this particular point. APPLY WAX Use a lint-free cloth to apply a single coat of wax on the sideboard. The wax protects the freshly coated paint by sealing it.

  9. ATTACH NEW KNOBS You can now start attaching the new knobs. The best thing about an upcycled sideboard is that you don’t have to drill in new holes. All you have to do is just pop the new knobs into the old holes and screw them in. The Upcycling Process WHERE’S THE SANDPAPER? This is probably the most difficult part. Get a hold of your sandpaper and start rubbing it gently on your sideboard’s surface; this will help reveal the colour.

  10. FUSION FURNITURE This particular upcycling idea is a bit difficult to implement. Therefore, I would only suggest a true artisan to take it on. Additional Tips Merging two different pieces of furniture to make one sideboard would definitely take some expert designing and carpentry skills. Combining a couple of above- mentioned items will give you a versatile sideboard.

  11. WALLPAPER COVERED SIDEBOARD Additional Tips Your worn-out sideboard can also be a subject to style and colour if you choose to upholster it with unique wallpapers. You’ll find many fancy types of wallpaper out there in the market. Make sure that you choose the ones that complement your furniture.
