  1. Heavy Rainfall Forces Closure of Educational Institutions in Chennai, Puducherry, and Surrounding Districts S H A R E In the aftermath of relentless heavy rainfall sweeping across Tamil Nadu, the closure of educational institutions in Chennai, Puducherry, and various other districts will remain closed on November 15. The decision, impacting schools in Chennai, Tiruvallur, and Puducherry, comes as a precautionary measure due to the adverse weather conditions. Intense Rainfall in Several Parts of Tamil Nadu Tuesday witnessed intense rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu, prompting numerous districts to declare a holiday for schools. Coastal and interior districts experienced severe downpours, compelling authorities to take swift action. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously issued a forecast warning of the potential for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in coastal regions, including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on November 14. An Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation

  2. The weather forecasting agency highlighted the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. This development is attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the South Andaman Sea. The low-pressure area is anticipated to move west-northwestwards, intensifying into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal by November 16. As a response to the inclement weather conditions, authorities declared a school holiday in Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Cuddalore districts on Tuesday. The IMD’s forecast for November 15 indicated heavy rainfall at isolated places in districts such as Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal. In Chennai, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy on Wednesday, with the possibility of moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning at a few locations. Some areas may experience heavy spells of rain. The maximum temperature is projected to be between 26-27°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 23°C. Precautionary Closure of Educational Institutions Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu are anticipated to receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday. This forecast extends to many locations, including coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area. Furthermore, the IMD predicts thunderstorms and lightning at a few places in the interior regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. The precautionary closure of educational institutions underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff in the face of challenging weather conditions. Residents and commuters are advised to stay informed about the evolving weather situation and take necessary precautions to minimize potential risks associated with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
